Prioritizing Priorat with Giné Giné: An Approachable Classic

When choosing what goes on our shelves and what to feature it could be very easy to select the wines produced with the most modern processes, the quirkiest blends, or even the label that stands out the most. We love a good label, after all, but, for the most part, they don’t taste great. Sometimes we forget the approachable, delicious classics that have held our collective interest for centuries. With this in mind, I’d like to spotlight Buil & Giné’s Giné Giné 2018 Priorat ($29.99 per bottle and rated 95 points by Wine Spectator).

Made from 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan and grown on llicorella (Palaeozoic slate for all the geology nerds reading this), this wine from the Priorat D.O.Q. of Spain exemplifies the traditional, 100% organic methods that have been utilized in the area since the Cathusian monks first started growing grapes here in the 12th century.

Dry and full of ripe fruit, this wine speaks to the unique terroir of the region and pairs well with literally all types of food. I, personally, paired it with a spicy risotto and burrata and the bottle stood up admirably. The wine itself is balanced and restrained. I’m glad one of us is.

Whether you’d like a bottle as a toast to the wines we sometimes forget, or a case (or two) to keep on hand for friends and family to enjoy, let us know if you’d like us to order some. E-mail us at gentiles@gentiles.com or give us a call at 614.486.3406 to place your order.

Cheers,

Bobby
