TWO FANTASTIC REDS!
I wanted to take a moment to highlight a couple of wine finds... a great closeout on a
Bordeaux and a brand new vintage of an old favorite. The purpose with these wines is twofold. First, it only seems appropriate to whet everyone's appetite for our Bordeaux tasting on September 24th as spots are beginning to fill up quickly. Second, to showcase a fantastic daily drinker from a great new vintage.
Our closeout Bordeaux is the fantastic 2010 Chateau Gamage Selection Xceptionnelle. Countless times we have hailed wines from the 2010 Bordeaux vintage, and the Chateau Gamage is no exception. The wine is beautifully extracted with floral and bright red berry aromas jumping out of the glass. Comprised of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc, the juice is medium bodied with supple tannins and a thirst quenching minerality on the finish. Fruit is the real star of this wine as it brings to mind black cherry, raspberry, and plums with just a touch of oaky vanilla in the background to give it depth and character. The wine retails for $19.99 a bottle (down from its release price of $29.99) and comes packed in wood six packs for $107.95 which includes your 10% case discount!
Secondly, an old favorite of mine is Can Blau Cellars "Blau". The new 2014 vintage has just landed and continues to impress. The wine makeup is 50% Carignan, 25% Syrah, and 25% Garnacha and is big and bold in every sense of the word. Aged for 4 months in French oak and displaying a deep, inky violet hue, Blau has rich notes of blackberries and spice with a smoky core making it a match in heaven with beef tenderloin or all manner of aged gouda. The full bodied nature of the wine is balanced by a nice acidity and a good tannin structure to keep it in line. The 2014 Blau recently received 90 Points from Vinous and retails for $13.99 a bottle. It comes in 12 pack cases for $151.10 which includes your 10% case discount.
