BIRDS, BREAD, AND BUTTER

July 9, 2015

Oh, man!  I know that we just sent out an email on our upcoming Spanish tasting but I was in the store today just in time to taste two brand new wines that are stunning, well priced, and you won’t want to miss.

2013 Bread & Butter California Chardonnay

The color is a daybright, golden yellow with bright flashes of brilliance. The wine develops like a story in the glass as you let it breathe. It begins with a combination of bright butterscotch and lemongrass. Then the notes of cream and lemon meringue pie begin to rise to the surface and are joined with toast, smoke and vanilla flavors from the oak. Floral and canned peach aromas develop last. When it all comes together, it's magic. There is a great balance of acidity and richness that makes Bread & Butter both refreshing and decadent. I can’t remember the last time I had a buttery chardonnay like this for under twenty dollars.  This wine goes great with all kinds of shellfish, salads, crab cakes, and pasta dishes and is more than fairly priced at $16.99 the bottle.  Case discount puts it at $183.50 for twelve.

2013 Aviary Napa Valley Cabernet

Well, first of all you know how great the 2013 vintage was in Napa…and to find a cabernet of this quality for under thirty dollars is rare.  This is a first effort by Gregory Ahn, Matt Scarlett, and Jonathan White and the wine is beautiful with rich juicy tannins and aromas of dried plums, blackberry jam, cassis, and cherry cola.  It is a dark garnet color and will age nicely for the next several years.  Seriously, the 2013 was praised as having nearly ideal conditions and this 100% Napa Valley cabernet is only $27.99 the bottle.  Case discount puts it at $302.30 for twelve.  Too good to pass up.
