SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE
Admittedly, I have found myself somewhat jaded when it comes to trying the same old white wine varietals while wishing to try something new, exciting, and unique, but still ultimately enjoyable and well made. Upon hearing about one of Roger's old tastings, the ABC's of white wine (Anything But Chardonnay), the sentiment immediately struck a chord with me. And so I was greatly pleased when I became acquainted with Casa Setaro's Fia Fiano di Avellino.
The wine is a certified DOCG and Casa Setaro sits on the slopes of Vesuvius National Park in Southern Italy where the grapes go from picked to production by husband and wife duo Massimo and Mariarosaria Setaro. With a singular focus on quality, the Fiano wine that is produced is greatly aromatic with fresh fruit and floral notes. On the tongue (and here is that uniqueness I was after), the flavors start where the aromas left off and follow with a sort of toasty, nutty taste (dare I say slightly smokey?), and finish with a long and dry minerality that leaves it incredibly refreshing. The wine is full bodied and sure to be excellent with grilled chicken or some "shrimp on the barbie". By the way, I thought I was a little crazy when I got that notable toasted/roasted nut note, but after doing a bit of research I found the wine does indeed spend a few months on the lees, so there, I am not crazy. Comforting.
Anyway, the price on the wine is $14.99 a bottle, or it comes in SIX packs for your 10% discount, bringing it to $80.95 plus tax for the case. Let us know by replying to this email and thanks!
