As these summer days start to descend on us and everyone begins firing up the grill, I have been keeping my eyes open for the perfect BBQ wine for your summer cookouts and I think have found the one to make everyone’s summer a delight. The 2010 Renwood Timberline Zinfandel is the perfect blend of value, quality, and class that makes this wine a must have.
Hailing from Amador County in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, where nearly half the grapes grown are Zinfandel, the 2010 Timberline is a powerful wine that will stand up to the richest of BBQ fare. Well deserving of its Double Gold at the San Francisco Chronicle 2013 Wine Competition, it is a dense, deep violet in color and is full of concentrated ripe berry and dark chocolate flavors with a long, spicy finish. Whereas some California Zins can come off cloying with their jam like qualities, the Timberline has a nice amount of tannin to balance that concentrated fruit, giving it a real depth. To be sure, this is a big wine at 15.5% alcohol, but it is balanced and it follows in the Renwood philosophy that ingenuity triumphs over strength.
I enjoyed the Timberline with a BBQ bacon cheddar burger, asparagus, and the latest (horrifying) episode of Game of Thrones and I felt not unlike a king. But, if you really want to treat yourself, consider skipping the grilling and head over to Ray Ray’s in Clintonville one weekend and pick up some grass fed brisket with Habanero BBQ and really make a day of it. Either way, I promise you won’t be disappointed, though Ray Ray’s may change your life.
At release, the winery was offering this big, beautiful wine for $39.99, but we are able to offer it to you today for only $19.99 a bottle or $216 for the case, plus tax. So please, let us know and we look forward to hearing from you.
