Good afternoon,

Well our offering this week takes us back to Roger’s favorite wine region, Rioja in Spain.  This is the land that produces the people and wines that Roger adored. In fact this wine comes from the most famous winery in this fabled region, La Rioja Alta, which was founded in 1890.  Alta’s winemaker, Julio Saenz believes in blends:  blends of parcels, blends of sub-regions and, especially blends of grapes.  The Gran Reserva 904 has 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo,  and only American oak is used; the wood is exported from Ohio and Kentucky and seasoned in Rioja. The wine is released comparatively late, after aging both in barrel and in bottle, when it is ready to drink, and the wine ages famously well.  The Gran Reserva 904 will surely take its place alongside earlier legendary Riojas.  Robert Parker rated this wine 96 points in the Wine Advocate and his description of the wine is as follows:

"Dark ruby-colored with a garnet rim, it displays a lovely nose of Asian spices, incense, tobacco, balsamic, and blackberry. On the palate it has exceptional depth, layers of spicy black fruit, excellent ripeness, and an elegant personality. Upon release it should continue to evolve for another 5-6 years and drink well through 2040." 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

There only a few cases of this exceptional wine available and when it’s gone that’s it….it would make an exceptional dinner accompaniment on New Year’s Eve.

$49.99 the bottle and $539.00 a case.
