Choosing a perfect wine for the holidays is no easy task but never fear, the Gentile’s team is here to help! This season calls for something full, fruity, and warming and one of our favorites at the store is the Masi Campofiorin, a wine from the Valpolicella area in the Veneto region of northeast Italy. It is made in the ripasso (passed over) style which involves fermenting a second round with partially dried grapes left over from the fermentation of Amarone.  Masi has an interesting history with this fermentation process and they are often credited with creating this wine for the mass market.

The Campofiorin is the original effort from Masi to create something akin to a baby Amarone. By using the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes, the wine is made as an option for those who wish to enjoy the Amarone style without paying the grown up Amarone price. It’s very soft, velvety rich character and bright fruit and gentle tannins make it quite versatile with food.  In fact, this wine can pair easily with everything from roasts, to hearty pastas and firm cheeses, and will make all the holiday dishes you serve (or you get stuck eating) taste decadent and festive.  We’ll attest to that!

With a bottle cost of $16.99 and a case price of $184, stock up for your house and get some to take along to those holiday parties.  It’s that tasty!  Everyone at Gentiles wishes you all the best during the holiday season and we look forward to seeing you at the store soon!
