Saturday Sampling Series: An Afternoon in Spain

We will host one of our famous Saturday sampling series tastings on Saturday, January 28th, from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. This wine tasting series features an informal walk-around event starring the Spanish wines of Eric Solomon. Both Ardie and Kevin Bonanno will join us as we taste seven of their more heralded wines, along with that great pizza from Mama Mimi’s. Cost for this is $16 (tax included) and we ask that you park across the street at The Kingland Building. The tasting will be in our Lake Room, at Gentile’s The Wine Sellers, 1565 King Avenue, in the Grandview area. To make your prepaid only reservations, call Gentile’s at 614.486.3406. Regarding the wines of Eric Solomon, according to The Wine Advocate: Spain is the hottest wine region in the world. Thanks to the work of several innovative importers, particularly Jorge Ordonez and Eric Solomon, this country is securing a bigger and bigger share of the fine wine market, as well as continuing to provide a bevy of exceptional bargains. There are some storm clouds on the horizon due to the fact that much of Spain had less than stellar vintages in 1997 and 1998. However, there are abundant quantities of high quality 1994s, 1995s, and 1996s in the marketplace, as well as others scheduled to be released over the next several years. Given the terrific climate, multitude of fabulous terroirs, and the requisite financial incentive to produce world-class wine, look for more and more unknown names to become overnight stars.

The Vintner’s Dinner Series at Z Cucina

Z Cucina and Gentile’s, The Wine Sellers have teamed up for another great Italian Vintner’s Dinner, this time with the esteemed Claudio Lenotti of his eponymous Veneto winery. This five course feast will be at Z Cucina on Thursday, February 9th, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Each course will be paired with a hand selected wine. The cost for this pre-paid, reservations only event is $75, which includes the meal, wines, tax, and tip. The wines to be served are:

A Night of Rioja Legends
Sit back and gaze at this— we will offer a nine wine tasting with some of the legends of Spain’s Rioja region. This event will have such stalwarts as Muga, Marquis de Murietta, San Vicente, Sierra Cantabria, Bodegas LAN, Marquis de Riscal, Rioja Alta, and Marquis de Caceres. Everything from robles to Gran Reservas will be poured and discussed, and this is a bountiful opportunity to learn about some of the world’s greatest wines and values. Monday March 19: 
Dinner with Franck at The Refectory

Join us as we welcome Franck Kakou to a French feast at The Refectory Restaurant, 1092 Bethel Road, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on March 19th.. The cost will be $82 the person inclusive of tax, tip, and the meal. This four-course dinner will feature Kamal’s impeccable presentation, Chef Richard’s food masterpieces, Jeff Elasky’s classic wine service, and the tantalizing Franck sharing stories of the homeland.
